Chrystia Freeland is a force to be reckoned with in both the political and journalistic realms. Born in Peace River, Alberta, Freeland grew up with a strong interest in politics and economics. She attended Harvard University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and literature. Freeland then went on to earn a Master’s degree in Slavic studies from St. Antony’s College, Oxford University.
After working as a stringer for the Financial Times in London, Freeland began her career at The Wall Street Journal, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become deputy editor. She then moved on to become the editor of Thomson Reuters Digital, where she oversaw the company’s expansion into digital news. In 2013, Freeland made the switch to politics, running for and winning a seat in the Canadian House of Commons. She has since held various prominent positions, including Minister of International Trade and, most recently, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.
